FOC 05-18-2026: Pre-Order Spotlight — DC K.O., Godzilla Kai-Sei, Dark Horse & Marvel Collections
Share
This week’s FOC (Final Order Cutoff: 5/18/26) is doing a little bit of everything — event books, deluxe collections, media-adjacent releases, and a surprisingly strong mix of modern superhero runs and genre-heavy creator-owned work.
At the top, this feels like an “expanding universe” week.
DC is pushing hard on that front with multiple DC K.O. companion collections, continued momentum for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest Vol. 9, and a healthy stack of accessible trade collections. Aquaman Vol. 2: Justice League Blue continues Jeremy Adams’ increasingly ambitious run, while Batman/Static: Beyond taps directly into the Beyond nostalgia lane in a way that feels smart instead of forced.
There’s also a strong “read this before the adaptation” energy this week. Batman Arkham: Clayface (2026 Edition) arrives ahead of the upcoming feature film, collecting decades of key Clayface stories from creators like Ed Brubaker, Darwyn Cooke, and Mike Mignola. Which means yes — this is probably the easiest recommendation on the list.
On the collector side, DC Finest: Justice League of America: Crisis on Earth-X continues DC’s quietly excellent archival line, while Marvel leans heavily into long-term shelf value with books like X-Men: Age of Krakoa by Kieron Gillen Omnibus. If you’ve been following the Krakoa era, this is one of those “you’ll either buy it now or hunt it later” releases.
Marvel’s modern line keeps building momentum too. Ultimate Spider-Man by Jonathan Hickman Vol. 4, Uncanny X-Men by Gail Simone Vol. 4, and Avengers by Jed MacKay Vol. 6 all continue runs that feel increasingly important to the current era.
Outside the superhero lane, BOOM! quietly has one of the more interesting weeks on the board. Jane reimagines Jane Eyre through a modern New York lens, while The Last Day of H.P. Lovecraft leans fully into gothic literary horror with some genuinely gorgeous art.
And then there’s the kaiju corner. IDW launches its new Godzilla Kai-Sei Era initiative this cycle, which feels like exactly the kind of line collectors underestimate early and then scramble to assemble later.
Release windows stretch from summer into early fall, so this is the point where format choices start to matter. Event companions, licensed tie-ins, and omnibus editions tend to tighten up quickly once first printings move.
Short version: this is a week for buying ahead of the curve a little.
Which is usually less expensive than pretending you meant to wait.
