FOC 08-31-2026 Pre-Orders: Secret Wars, TMNT, Kraven & More
Share
This week's Final Order Cutoff (FOC) for August 31, 2026 has a little bit of everything: giant Marvel omnibuses, modern trades, classic stories in new formats, kid-friendly collections, and enough nostalgia to make anyone who remembers 1991 feel personally attacked by the passage of time.
The collector-sized headline is Secret Wars: Battleworld Omnibus Vol. 4, which continues Marvel’s heroic effort to put seemingly every corner of 2015’s Battleworld onto your bookshelf. This one rounds up another massive assortment of tie-ins including Spider-Island, Spider-Verse, Squadron Sinister, Thors, Ultimate End, Weirdworld, X-Men ’92, Years of Future Past, and more. It doesn’t arrive until February 2027, but with a book this big, your shelf probably needs the advance notice.
There’s also a strong nostalgia contingent this week, led by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Secret of the Ooze — 35th Anniversary. IDW is bringing the original 1991 Archie Comics adaptation back in hardcover with its original art and colors. Shredder. Tokka. Rahzar. Ooze. If the phrase “Go ninja, go ninja, go” immediately appeared in your head, congratulations: this book knows exactly who you are.
Marvel has another easy recommendation with Spider-Man: Kraven’s Last Hunt joining the Marvel Premier Collection. J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck’s classic remains one of the definitive Spider-Man stories, and this edition packages the original six-part saga with Soul of the Hunter and additional material. If you somehow don’t own Kraven’s Last Hunt already, Marvel has once again provided an opportunity to correct this administrative oversight.
Star Wars fans get a particularly good one-two punch. Star Wars: Darth Vader — Shadows & Secrets collects the first 12 issues of Kieron Gillen and Salvador Larroca’s 2015 Darth Vader series, including the introduction of Doctor Aphra, Triple-Zero, and BT-1. Meanwhile, Star Wars: Skywalker Strikes collects the first 12 issues of Jason Aaron’s companion Star Wars series. Both pick up after A New Hope, which makes them a pretty clean entry point for anyone who missed Marvel’s big Star Wars relaunch the first time around.
Hulk readers apparently did something to deserve two different flavors of chaos this week. Hulk Modern Era Epic Collection: Fall of the Hulks digs into the Intelligencia-driven crossover era, while Infernal Hulk collects the first ten issues of the monstrous new series in which Bruce Banner and Hulk have been separated and Eldest has taken possession of Hulk’s body. One is complicated superhero conspiracy Hulk. The other is nightmare-fuel Hulk. Choose your emotional support giant accordingly.
The X-side of Marvel is represented by Cyclops: Seeing Red and Storm: Earth’s Mightiest Mutant — Death’s Machinations. Cyclops gets a stripped-down survival story that leaves Scott Summers visorless, separated from the X-Men, and responsible for protecting a young mutant. Storm, meanwhile, is dealing with interdimensional invasions, Death, Scarlet Witch, and the first Marvel-616 appearance of Galacta. Ororo does not believe in easing back into the workweek.
And then there’s Planet of the Apes vs. Fantastic Four, a title that requires very little additional salesmanship. The Fantastic Four get stranded on the Planet of the Apes. There are ape versions of Marvel villains. There is an Ape-tastic Four. At some point, you simply have to respect comics for being comics.
Outside Marvel, The Rocketeer: Amazing Tales — IDW Classic Collections packs more than 300 pages of pulp adventure into a compact format, including Hollywood Horror, Cargo of Doom, and The Rocketeer at War. Lumberjanes Book Eight arrives in both hardcover and paperback, collecting three more adventures from the beloved series. And younger readers get Garfield Book Two plus the pocket-sized Sonic the Hedgehog: On The Go, Vol. 4. Because not every comic needs to require reinforced shelving.
Short version: Secret Wars collectors have another very large problem to buy, TMNT fans get a fantastic nostalgia piece, Marvel is putting several legitimately great stories into accessible new formats, and there’s enough variety here that this FOC list covers just about every kind of bookshelf.
Pre-order before FOC on August 31, 2026 to make sure the books you want are accounted for. As always, waiting until release day is technically a strategy. It’s just one that occasionally ends with you angrily searching eBay at 11:47 p.m.
