FOC 08-03-2026: Darwyn Cooke Batman, Absolute Universe & Key Omnibuses

This week’s Final Order Cutoff (FOC) for August 3, 2026 is a deep one — Absolutes, omnibuses, Artist’s Editions, horror, manga, creator-driven favorites, and enough books for younger readers to prove we’re at least trying to raise the next generation correctly.

The premium-format centerpiece is Batman by Darwyn Cooke: Absolute Edition, collecting Cooke’s Batman and Catwoman work in the kind of oversized presentation his art deserves. It’s joined by José Luis García-López’s DC Classics Artist’s Edition, which reproduces original pages at full size, and The Marvel Comics Covers of Jack Kirby Vol. 3. Basically, this is a very good week for people who occasionally buy books just to stare at them. Respectfully.

The Absolute Universe also keeps moving with Absolute Superman Vol. 3: The Neverending Begins and Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 3: Season of the Witch, both available in hardcover and trade. These are the titles, not oversized Absolute Editions — because DC has decided the word “Absolute” should keep everyone alert.

Omnibus collectors have several expensive decisions to make. Deathstroke by Christopher Priest Omnibus and Harley Quinn by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti Omnibus Vol. 1 return in new editions, while Batman: The Golden Age Omnibus Vol. 4, The Warlord by Mike Grell Omnibus Vol. 2, Strangers in Paradise Omnibus Vol. 1, and Runaways by Rainbow Rowell Omnibus cover a very wide range of shelf-building priorities.

DC’s archival lane is especially strong. Animal Man by Grant Morrison Book One returns in a new edition, DC Finest: Doom Patrol — The End Sanctifies the Means collects Rachel Pollack’s wonderfully strange Vertigo run, and Swamp Thing by Rick Veitch Book Three completes the saga with restored material. There’s also DC Finest: Horror — Where Dead Men Walk for anyone who believes October reading should be selected in August.

Outside DC, H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dunwich Horror Deluxe Edition gives Gou Tanabe’s manga adaptation the full foil, gilded-edge, ribbon-bookmark treatment. Dark Horse also brings Masters of the Universe: Revolution Library Edition, Marvel’s Wolverine: The Art of the Game, Cyberpunk 2077: Chrome, and the first Strangers in Paradise hardcover omnibus.

There’s plenty here for readers who do not need every book to double as furniture. Jem and the Holograms Book One, The Woods Book Two, Star Trek: The Last Starship Vol. 1, and Marvel Epic Collections for Captain America and Ghost Rider offer substantial reading without requiring an engineering review of your bookcase.

And the younger-reader lineup is unusually deep, with You’re a Superhero!, Kanga-U, Baby Garfield, several Marvel storybooks, and new Spidey and Avengers collections. Not every FOC decision needs to involve archival paper and a three-digit cover price.

Short version: this is an art-and-archives week at the top, with a surprisingly broad mix underneath. If you want the Darwyn Cooke Absolute, a returning omnibus, or one of the specialty art editions, FOC is the cleanest time to lock it in.
