FOC 10-5-2026: Absolute Batman, Miles Morales, Star Wars & More
This week's Final Order Cutoff (FOC) for October 5, 2026 has apparently decided subtlety is overrated. Absolute Batman gets the deluxe hardcover treatment, Marvel is making it dangerously easy to start collecting Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen, Paul Jenkins is back writing Sentry, and the original Marvel Star Wars series is returning in an omnibus large enough to remind you why shelves have weight limits.
The obvious headliner is Absolute Batman: Deluxe Edition Vol. 1, collecting Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta’s first 14 issues in a foil-stamped hardcover. Considering how quickly Absolute Batman became one of DC’s biggest books, the deluxe edition feels less like a surprise and more like the natural next stage of its evolution. Single issues become trades. Trades become hardcovers. Eventually somebody builds a book heavy enough to require two hands.
DC is also publishing Absolute Batman: The Covers, collecting the mountain of variant artwork that has accompanied those first 14 issues. Mitch Gerads, Jae Lee, Sean Murphy, Stanley “Artgerm” Lau, Dan Panosian and plenty more are represented, along with Nick Dragotta’s original inked artwork for issue #1. Completely necessary? Probably depends how you define necessary. Very cool? Unfortunately, yes.
Marvel has two particularly smart additions to its Compact line this week. Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man goes all the way back to Miles’ beginning, including material from Ultimate Fallout #4 and the opening run of Ultimate Comics Spider-Man. Spider-Gwen: The Radioactive Spider-Woman does essentially the same thing for Gwen Stacy, starting with Edge of Spider-Verse #2 and moving into her first solo series. They’re inexpensive, portable entry points for two characters who have become substantially bigger than the comics that introduced them.
There’s also an interesting one for Sentry collectors. Sentry: Lost in the Void brings co-creator Paul Jenkins back to Bob Reynolds for a new story involving the Void, Reed Richards, Spider-Man and Kingpin. Anytime one of a character’s original architects comes back decades later, I’m interested to see what they still have to say — especially with Sentry receiving considerably more attention outside comics than he had for most of his publishing history.
And then there’s Star Wars: The Original Marvel Years Omnibus Vol. 1, getting another printing with a Howard Chaykin cover. These comics are fascinating because Marvel was building out the Star Wars universe beginning in 1977, when there wasn’t much of a Star Wars universe yet. The collection runs from the adaptation of A New Hope through the era of The Empire Strikes Back, with all the strange characters and ideas created while everyone was still figuring out what this franchise could become. Yes, that includes Jaxxon. Of course it includes Jaxxon.
A few sleeper picks are worth mentioning too. The Rocketeer: The Island sends Cliff Secord searching for Amelia Earhart based on a never-published outline from Rocketeer creator Dave Stevens. Moonstar: Edge of Doubt collects Dani Moonstar’s first solo series, which feels mildly unbelievable considering how long the character has been around. And Marvel's Most Villainous: Doctor Doom pulls together four decades of Doom stories and artwork from creators including Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, John Byrne, Chris Claremont and Mike Wieringo.
Short version: Absolute Batman gets the premium shelf treatment, Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen get inexpensive starting points, Sentry gets one of his creators back, and Marvel’s wonderfully strange original Star Wars era returns in omnibus form. Somehow, “I’m running out of shelf space” continues to have absolutely no influence on publishing schedules.
Pre-order before FOC on October 5, 2026 to make sure your copies are included in our initial orders. “I’ll grab it when it comes out” remains a perfectly valid strategy, assuming nobody else wants the same book.
