Gambit returned to the screen.
Did the comic hold its gains?
A sales-based study of Gambit’s 2024 animation and film appearances, the 2025 Doomsday cast announcement, and the prices recorded through September 2026.
01 / THE STUDY TIMELINE
More attention. No sustained price lift.
697 recorded sales across January 2023–September 2026. Six dated milestones. Monthly medians place the 2024 screen cycle within an existing decline.
Dots retain recorded sale dates. Monthly medians sit at mid-month; connecting lines do not estimate daily prices. Empty periods break the line. Bars show recorded transactions per period. Sep 2026 partial through Sep 15 Scroll horizontally on smaller screens.
Aug 2023–Jan 2024 pooled median · 72 sales
July 2024 median · 13 sales
July 2025 median · 14 sales

WHAT THE SALES SHOW
More film-window sales.
The same median price.
Across the 30 days before and after the July 26, 2024 U.S. release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the median stayed at $600. Recorded transactions rose from 15 to 27 (+80.0%). That is greater recorded activity, without an accompanying median-price increase.
The X-Men ’97 trailer and streaming debut coincided with small 30-day changes of +1.4% and +2.4%. Around episode five, Remember It, the median moved from $668 (19 sales) to $615 (23 sales), a 7.9% decline. These windows overlap; they cannot separate the influence of each episode or announcement.
The March 26, 2025 Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement coincided with a 1.6% increase, from $526.50 (14 sales) to $535 (15 sales). July 2025’s median was $516.50 (14 sales), below July 2024’s $615 (13 sales).

What changed around each event?
Median prices and recorded volumes in the 30 calendar days before and after each date. Event-day sales are excluded. Overlapping windows are not independent effects.

Samples below five transactions are flagged. Percentage changes are descriptive and do not establish causation. Regular trading supports monthly medians and 30-day comparisons: every detailed-chart month has at least five sales except the partial capture month. Event counts and 90-day sensitivity comparisons are retained in the analysis. Overlapping animation, film and publishing windows cannot isolate individual effects.
03 / THE LONG VIEW
The larger peak came before the 2024 cycle.
The long view uses all 25 GPA annual summaries, representing 3,303 recorded transactions. The highest annual average was $995 in 2021, compared with $586 in 2024, $495 in 2025, and $478 in partial-year 2026. The lifetime highest individual sale was $1,600; an individual high and an annual average measure different things.
Within the detailed chart, the highest monthly median was $750 in May 2023 (17 sales), before the 2024 trailer. The chart therefore starts a year before the screen cycle to show the preceding price path.
Annual averages reproduce GPA’s rounded summaries and differ from the medians above. The capture year is partial.
A longer Gambit screen history.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine opened in the U.S. on May 1, 2009. In May 2014 reporting, producer Lauren Shuler Donner identified Channing Tatum as Gambit; this was development and casting news, not a released solo film. The planned film was removed from Disney’s schedule on May 7, 2019.
Tatum eventually portrayed Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine. The detailed event comparisons focus on 2024–2025; older events supply historical context rather than additional causal claims. The 2021 high also falls within the pandemic-era collectibles cycle, but this study has no broader-market comparison series to quantify that contribution.
RESEARCH NOTES
Traceable data.
Defined comparisons.
Recorded transactions, documented exclusions, and sourced events.
Capture audit
GPAnalysis ↗ · 3303 captured rows · 3303 eligible rows · 697 plotted rows. Capture scope: lifetime. All 25 available annual summaries (2002–2026) have matching individual transaction captures. The detailed chart covers January 2023 through September 15, 2026; 2026 and September 2026 are partial. Standard unannotated Universal 9.8 is used as GPA’s direct-edition series; older unflagged newsstands cannot be independently ruled out.
Method selection
Regular trading supports monthly medians and 30-day comparisons: every detailed-chart month has at least five sales except the partial capture month. Event counts and 90-day sensitivity comparisons are retained in the analysis. Overlapping animation, film and publishing windows cannot isolate individual effects.
Book and edition
Marvel’s issue record identifies the original #266. The requested subject is the direct edition, first printing, CGC 9.8 Universal. GPA does not explicitly label its standard row “Direct Edition”: the separately listed Newsstand Edition and all annotated or special categories were omitted at acquisition. Individual listings and cover barcodes have not been audited, so historical unflagged newsstand contamination cannot be ruled out. No other grade was pooled into this study.
Capture and reconciliation
All dated rows in the standard category were captured from GPA’s expanded visible tables. Each annual row count reconciles, for a total of 3,303. No substantive row annotations were present and no within-category rows were excluded. Repeated certificate numbers remain separate recorded transactions; blank certificates remain eligible. Original date, price and certificate text are preserved locally.
Defined windows
The baseline pools August 1, 2023–January 31, 2024: six complete months before the February trailer, not a pre-announcement or media-free baseline. Release month is July 2024; the one-year follow-up is July 2025. The latest window pools June–August 2026 to avoid the incomplete capture month and reduce dependence on one month. Different window lengths are intentional and are shown with counts. September 2026 contains only three recorded sales through capture and is provisional.
Calculation and scope
Medians pool individual sales. Intervals include the start and exclude the end. Event windows use days −30 through −1 and +1 through +30; the event date is excluded because sale times are unavailable. The saved analysis also contains 90-day sensitivity windows. Every side of the six primary comparisons has at least 14 transactions, but adequate counts do not establish statistical significance. No inflation, currency, fee or broad-market adjustment is applied. The analysis does not measure investment returns or prove causation.
