01 / THE FIRST-FILM CYCLE
The quarterly median peaked before release.
170 recorded sales, six film milestones, and quarterly medians suited to a less frequently traded Bronze Age book.
Dots retain the actual recorded sale dates. Quarterly medians are positioned at the quarter’s midpoint; connecting lines do not estimate daily prices. Bars show quarterly transaction counts. Scroll horizontally on smaller screens.

WHAT THE SALES SHOW
The median and the record sale
tell different stories.
The 90 days after the April 2021 teaser had a $4,767 median across six sales, compared with $2,578 across 14 sales beforehand. The highest quarterly median was $5,450 in Q2 2021, based on just three sales. The highest individual transaction, $7,400 on September 8, 2021, came after release. A record sale and a typical-price measure are different signals.
Around the September 3 release, the 90-day median moved from $3,988 to $3,550, or -11.0%. The release-quarter median of $3,939 fell to $2,023.50 in the same quarter of 2022, although that follow-up contains just four sales.
By partial 2026, the median was $837.50: 78.7% below the release quarter, yet 55.8% above the $537.50 pre-development baseline in nominal dollars.

What changed around each event?
Median prices and recorded volumes in the 90 days before and after each date. Event-day sales are excluded. Wider windows improve coverage but also include more overlapping news.

The development comparison has only one pre-event sale, and the full-trailer comparison has three. Their percentage changes are arithmetic descriptions, not reliable estimates of an event effect. The teaser, trailer, premiere, and release windows overlap substantially.
03 / THE LONG VIEW
A long history around a short-lived surge.
All 362 lifetime sale rows were captured. This overview uses GPA’s annual average summaries; 2026 is partial. The detailed 2017–2023 study period is shaded.
Annual averages differ from the quarterly and pooled medians above. A year’s average does not represent a sale on the midpoint date used to position it.
A COMPANION TO ETERNALS #1
Two 2021 films.
Two different remaining baselines.
Our Eternals #1 study ends near its selected pre-development baseline. Shang-Chi’s first appearance retains more nominal uplift in this snapshot, despite a substantial decline from release-era prices.
This is an exploratory comparison, not a controlled ranking: Special Marvel Edition #15 uses CGC 9.6, Eternals uses 9.8, and their baseline dates, supply, and follow-up sample sizes differ.

Sales & scope
Source: GPAnalysis ↗. All 362 standard Universal 9.6 records from 2002 through the September 15, 2026 capture were recorded; every annual count reconciles. The latest recorded transaction is September 10, 2026. The detailed chart includes 170 records from 2017–2023. Separately listed pedigrees, signatures, special categories, and other grades are excluded. Transaction counts are not unique-copy counts.
Calculations
The baseline pools June–November 2018, six complete calendar months before the December development report (8 sales). The release and one-year-later comparisons use July–September 2021 and July–September 2022. Quarterly medians use individual sales and sit at the quarter midpoint; missing quarters have no median and break the line. Annual averages reproduce GPA’s rounded summary values.
Event windows use 90 calendar days on either side, excluding the event day. A 30-day review yielded zero pre-event sales for Comic-Con and the premiere, and only one for the development report and teaser. The wider window still leaves some very small samples, flagged in the table. No significance testing or causal estimate is implied. Prices remain GPA-displayed nominal dollars; fees, currency normalization, and individual listing details were not independently audited.
Overlapping news
Release delays and the pandemic overlap the first-film cycle. A sequel was reported on December 6, 2021, adding a later catalyst to the follow-up period. The lifetime overview is context, not an exhaustive catalog of subsequent MCU announcements.
