Unboxing videos. It seems they’re all the rage these days…at least in my household. I have two young daughters who are hooked on these vids, and quite frankly, I didn’t really understand it (now turn the music down and get off my lawn!). I mean these unboxing videos are just random people opening up blind bags of Shopkins and My Little Pony’s and Lego Mini Figures and other miscellaneous plastic crap.
How is that even fun to watch?
Of course the ironic part is that these toys my kids are watching adult strangers open and play with are the same damn toys they have in their room. Just go play with your freaking toys and put the iPad down!
But I digress….
Because all of this unboxing nonsense was in my head, when I received my most recent shipment of slabbed and graded comics back from CGC, the idea to do an unboxing video for them immediately came to mind. And then I wanted to shoot myself for even having such a thought. I mean how can I criticize my children for watching unboxing videos if I’m adding my own videos on top of the content heap?
As a compromise with my integrity (and sanity) I decided to to a live unboxing on Instagram and see what the reaction was from comic book loving grown-ups. Turns out it went over really well (according to the three people who watched the live stream). So even though it was a small sample size, I decided I’d just repurpose the recording of the live stream, give it a little snazzy production value, and upload it to the brand new Certified Comic Shop YouTube Channel.
So as much as it pains me to say it, here’s my very first unboxing video of CGC graded comics….
In all seriousness though, the live stream was really fun to do and I’m happy with how the produced video came out on YouTube. Admittedly, it was more fun to do than I thought it would be and I’ll probably continue to make unboxing videos like these whenever there’s an opportunity to do so.
Do me a favor, check out the video and see what CGC graded comics I was able to add to the shop. Then if you could be so kind and let me know in the comment section below what you thought about the video, that would be awesome. Thanks for checking it out, and I look forward to hearing your feedback!
